Principal Requirements Engineer
Initial 12 Month Contract
£76.53 per hour (Inside IR35)

They specialise in developing innovative technologies and systems that meet the evolving needs of defence organizations worldwide.

As a Principal Requirements Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of defence technology and contributing to the safety and security of nations.

We are seeking highly skilled and experienced Principal Requirements Engineers to lead the development and management of system requirements for defence projects. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to define, analyse, and document system requirements, ensuring alignment with customer needs, industry standards, and project objectives.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the requirements engineering process, including elicitation, analysis, validation, and management of system requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  2. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand and capture customer needs, operational concepts, and system constraints.
  3. Define clear, concise, and verifiable requirements specifications that address functional, performance, and interface aspects of complex defence systems.
  4. Conduct trade-off analyses and risk assessments to prioritize requirements and resolve conflicting objectives.
  5. Work closely with system architects, designers, and developers to ensure that requirements are correctly implemented and validated.
  6. Establish and maintain traceability between requirements, design artifacts, and test cases to ensure comprehensive coverage and compliance.
  7. Support proposal development activities by providing technical expertise and contributing to requirement analysis and scoping efforts.
  8. Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement within the requirements engineering discipline.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  2. Minimum of 8 years of experience in requirements engineering, with a focus on complex defence systems or related industries.
  3. Proven track record of leading requirements engineering activities for large-scale defence projects, from concept development through to delivery and sustainment.
  4. Expertise in requirements elicitation techniques, such as interviews, workshops, and surveys, as well as tools like DOORS or similar.
  5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to critically evaluate trade-offs and make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  6. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts and requirements to diverse audiences, including customers, management, and development teams.
  7. Familiarity with defence standards and regulations (e.g., MIL-STD-961E, ISO/IEC 15288, DEF-STAN 00-55) and experience working within a regulated environment (e.g., CMMI, ISO 9001, AS9100).
  8. Active security clearance or ability to obtain one.
