£52.78 an hour Umbrella Inside IR35

6 Month Contract initially.



This is a great opportunity to work within one of the UK's leading Defence organisations based In Barrow in Furness.

2-3 days per week on site.

The Alliance Cost Controller is a key role, supporting the Deputy Head of Cost in developing and managing an enduring cost management capability, providing assured cost information and analysis to enable the Alliance Management Committee to make quick and effective 'Best for Programme' decisions. The Cost Team is responsible for the management and assurance of the programme cost information provided by the Alliance Parties through the quarterly Full Project Costing (FPC) and Annual Budgeting Cycle (ABC), which feeds into the Alliance Joint Cost Model (AJCM) and is subject to CAAS audit. This role supports the Deputy Head of Cost in delivering the Annual Budgeting Cycle timetable, ensuring deliverables are on time and of the right quality, and continuously identifying and implementing process improvement opportunities. This role will drive cost consciousness and alignment of base costs, uncertainty, risk and opportunities with underlying assumptions, the Unify schedule and approved change. This role will assist in developing governance and assurance structures, processes and procedures, and in establishing a SQEP cost management capability, ensuring that the Cost Team operates effectively and efficiently, providing timely, accurate and consistent programme cost information.

Candidate specification

  • Desirable - qualifications in a relevant discipline (Finance / Project Management).
  • Required - experience in finance / project accounting / project controls / cost estimating.
  • Experience in the management of significant capital projects at project manager level.
  • Significant experience in managing the interface between projects and finance and in ensuring clear visibility from project activity to the financial outputs.
  • Significant experience of working with stakeholders across multiple functions and grade structures, and facilitating/influencing decision making at these levels
  • Ability to manage highly capable, cross-functional teams, and exert influence both within and outside direct line management
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Proven experience in the leadership and management of a team
  • Desirable - experience of working within a major UK investment project, involving both public and private sector organisations
  • Displays strong leadership behaviours and a passion for driving performance and delivering to planned actions
  • Has the ability to keep things simple and remove complexity - communicates with clarity, brevity and simplicity, sets simple, tangible priorities, eliminates complexity for faster customer delivery
  • Explores different ways of doing things by delegating decision making effectively, exploring options in order to overcome obstacles and responds quickly to changing business circumstances.
  • Understands and promotes collaboration both inside and outside of the Alliance, values the diversity of people and perspectives.
